Personally, I feel so much better about myself when I have great looking eyelashes. There's something about the way they flutter as you blink. But, I never had any luck with getting the look I wanted until I learned a couple of tricks.
The first step to great lashes is also the scariest. After you take the wand out of the bottle, but before you touch it to your lashes, wipe off any excess product from the wand. Yep, wipe off and throw away perfectly good mascara. Believe me ~ it will be worth it. This ensures even coating and prevents clumping. Scary ~ but do it!
When you finally take the wand to the lashes, you will start at the base, as close to your eye as possible without getting it in your eyeball. Wiggle the wand from side to side (a). Then comb your lashes with the wand from base to tip, leaving an even coat (b).
If any clumping does happen (it usually won't if you follow the above steps ~ I made my lashes clump on purpose for effect) use a cool little tool to separate them.

After another light coat, you should have big beautiful lashes.
In this picture I didn't do any of the above steps. I pulled the wand out and applied it. See the difference? I sure do!
Now it's your turn to share!

Wow that is cool!!! I am going to try it!
I had to link to my muffin tin dinner because it was totally famous this week - it was even on the "Bloggernacle" (as well as some other boards and such). So funny!
That's so awesome, Jenny! Congrats!
You always have such cool posts. By the way I love your eyes.
Check out my Three of... It was a fascinating self-exploration. You might give it a try.
Pretttty!
Thanks for this tip, I'll be brave and try it. I'd love to know what your favorite mascara brand/product is?
Looks amazing, nice different. Will have to try that now too! :)
I have never once thought to wipe the mascara wand before I apply it! I can't believe how much better it is to d it that way! Thanks for the tip!
Ok, so, I'm confused... When you say wipe of excess mascara off the wand...
1) Like the wand part above the brush? Or the brush area too, cuz I get that clump on the tip of the brusth sometimes too.
2) What do you use to wipe it off? Cuz I would imagine tissue would fall apart if its on the brush area.
I really want to try, so let me know.
Thanks!
You wipe it just off the brush and tissue holds up fine, unless you have really wimpy tissue. Hope that helped ~ let me know if it didn't.
